What is Silica Fume Cement?
Silica fume is a byproduct of producing silicon metal or ferrosilicon alloys. Concrete containing silica fume has very high strength and can be very durable. Silica fume is available to be added to the mixture during concrete production. Advantages of adding silica fume to concrete include high early compressive strength, enhanced durability, increased toughness, higher bond strength, increased abrasion resistance on decks, floors, overlays and marine structures, and superior resistance to chemical attack from chlorides, acids, nitrates and sulfates and life-cycle cost efficiencies.
