ADA Tiles, Detectable Warning Surfaces, & Truncated Domes
ADA Tiles Overview
ADA Tiles, also known as tactile walking surface indicators (TWSI) or detectable warning panels, are special paver attachments that help the visually impaired to safely utilize pedestrian crossings, intersections, or hazardous drop-offs like transit platforms.
These tactile warning surfaces, mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act, feature a raised, bumpy, slip-resistant surface in a different color than the surrounding concrete to assist with wayfinding. When installed properly, detectable warning panels can keep you and your neighborhood safe.
We can provide polymer, cast iron, or galvanized tactile paving options depending on your location and what your project calls for. We also boast an inventory of dozens of possible radius solutionsโway more than youโll find at a supply store. All our tiles adhere to ADA guidelines and IDOT specifications.
How to Calculate Radius
Our ADA tiles include linear, plate, and wedge options that can be combined to create more than 40 different radius configurations. To find your proper configuration, simply measure the chord length and height at the rear of the curb where the tactile surface will be applied.

ADA WARNING TILES

HOW DETECTABLE WARNING TILES WORK
Detectable warning surfaces are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Federal guidelines require warning mats to be of a minimum size and for truncated domes to meet specific diameter, height, and spacing requirements. These surface-mounted truncated domes can be felt through a cane, walker, wheelchair, or a person’s feet.
DOME SIZE
Truncated domes in a detectable warning surface shall have a base diameter of 0.9 inch (23 mm) minimum and 1.4 inches (36 mm) maximum.
DOME SPACING
Truncated domes in a detectable warning surface shall have a center-to-center spacing of 1.6 inches (41mm) minimum and 2.4 inches (61 mm) maximum.
CONTRAST
Detectable warning surfaces shall contrast visually with adjacent walking surfaces either light-on-dark, or dark-on-light.

- Price varies by order weight

Polymer
- More cost-effective than galvanized steel or cast-iron options, but lack equal durability
- Can be wet set or applied later
- Minimum six-pallet order required to get materials at cost
- INDOT approved

- Can also withstand snow removal equipment (plows, shovels, etc.)
- WISDOT, CDOT, and INDOT approved
- Price varies by order weight
