Back in spring 2019, Isis Amador from our South Florida region was contacted by Carmen Villar, a woman who worked for one of our general contractors and who was putting together a career day for her child’s school at Hialeah Gardens Elementary. “This school is primarily made up of children with autism,” said Isis. “Carmen saw one of our trucks on a jobsite, reached out and asked if we could provide a truck for Career Day and join other trucks, helicopters and cranes she was able to secure.”
Ozinga was happy to participate, and we brought one of our trucks to the school. During the event, students were brought out one class at a time to learn more about each vehicle participating. Ozinga Driver Lazaro Diaz honked the horn, displayed the water tank, ran the drum and showed each class how our ready mix trucks operate. He even passed out coloring books to the students to help them learn more about Ozinga.
“It was such a great event that we were looking forward to participating again in 2020, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to COVID,” said Isis.
After seeing the impact bringing one of our trucks to these events make on young children, Ozinga participated in another event at Gateway Environmental K-8, where Ozinga Safety Manager Nelson Machado’s wife works as an ESOL specialist.
“COVID needs to end because I want to do more of these in the future,” said Isis. “It’s a simple but great way to show kids what a ready mix company can do.”
