Ozinga Earns Three Design Awards for Outstanding Concrete from IRMCA
Ozinga earned three awards and recognition from the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) for our concrete application.
Our first award was for Bulldog Park in Crown Point, IN. Of the 2,160 cubic yards in this project, nearly half was used on the exterior flatwork and a pavilion/ice rink floor. The intricacies in the planning, placing and finishing of an ice rink floor made Bulldog Park a clear winner.
The second award was for the 96th Place Water Tank. When Crown Point, IN needed to build a water tank to help keep rates down for residents, a concrete tank proved to be the best solution due to its durability and lower cost compared to a steel structure. This project used nine different mixes, multiple aggregates and admixtures, and several layers of construction practices: cast in place, tilt-up, grouting, and shotcrete. The wall and roof of the tank were cast in curved forms laying down, prestressed, lifted and placed in position and finally grouted together.

The third award was for the I65 Bridge over the CSX Railroad and Central Ave. This bridge was originally constructed in 1965 and the need to remove and replace the bridge deck was necessary to repair deficiencies lying beneath the surface. The bridge also had to be widened by three feet and a pier had to be replaced. The $12.7 million, 6,367-cubic-yard bridge was completed ahead of schedule in November 2019. This job consisted of INDOT Class A and Class C concrete.
