CarbonSense® Overview

Ozinga has developed a line of products that significantly reduce the material impact of embodied carbon on construction and infrastructure. CarbonSense® products and solutions have been specially designed and tested to help you reduce carbon emissions and work towards reaching net-zero targets.

CarbonSense® ready mix concrete mixes are designed to achieve similar performance to your typical concrete. While these mixes are designed to minimize effects on schedule, it is absolutely necessary to have increased communication amongst all stakeholders to ensure proper placement and desired performance. Workability, strength, and performance of the concrete does not have to be compromised in order to meet carbon reduction goals in building.

All CarbonSense® mix designs also incorporate CarbonCure™ Technology for additional cement reduction. With partners like CarbonCure™, we are able to combine multiple sustainable solutions to maximize the embodied carbon reduction on projects. What’s more, all of our concrete produced in our service area is all developed, tested, and validated in our CCRL/ASTM-certified research & development lab using ConcreteAI™. This innovative technology is a proprietary machine-learning program that allows us to shorten the time to market by predicting strengths and performance of a mix design without numerous iterations of mortar and concrete trials.

900 Randolph

Chicago, IL | 43-Story High Rise | 25,766 Cubic Yards of Concrete

900 Randolph in Chicago’s Fulton Market District is under construction as of late 2021. This 547,000 square-foot high rise with a slim square tower design will feature 300 residential units including affordable housing. This project, under the direction of developer Related Midwest and LR Contracting, aimed to reduce the overall environmental impact of the building and looked for more sustainable material options. Using supplementary cementitious materials, CarbonCure Technology and ConcreteAI Technology, there was a significant savings of embodied carbon emissions to the project.

Global CO2 Reduction

Efforts to reduce global CO2 emissions have intensified in recent years as many recognize the urgent need to combat climate change. According to recent data, global CO2 emissions experienced a slight drop during the COVID-19 pandemic due to decreased industrial activity and transportation. However, emissions quickly rebounded, underscoring the importance of implementing long-term sustainable practices. Key strategies include transitioning to renewable energy sources, implementing energy-efficient technologies, reforestation projects, and fostering international cooperation with other countries. While progress is being made, achieving significant CO2 reduction requires a collective commitment to innovation, policy changes, and widespread behavioral adjustments to secure a sustainable future for the planet.
