Fill Dirt

Fill Dirt Overview

Fill dirt is a combination of natural materials (subsoil, rock, sand, clay, etc.) used to fill in a hole in the ground or to purposefully change the grade or elevation of a property. It’s usually taken from locations where the soil is being removed, like construction sites or roadway projects.

Ozinga’s fill dirt is sourced from a brownfield site that consists of till dredged from the Cal Sag channel. Our fill dirt is engineer clean screened. It’s clean and devoid of debris or organic matter. It also has a 98% compaction rating—meaning it’s sure to stay put whether you’re filling in an old swimming pool or adding man made hills on your property.

Fill Dirt Types

  • Common fill comes directly from the ground without being cleaned or tested for debris
  • Clean fill is free of hazardous materials, but it hasn’t been screened for debris or organic chemicals
  • Screened dirt, as the name implies, has been screened for debris. It costs a bit more but it’s perfect for landscaping projects
  • Select fill is checked for debris and organic materials. It’s also subjected to additional testing from a soil engineer
