2017 – Pioneering the Path
Back in 2017, Ozinga became the first supplier in the Chicago area to introduce CarbonCure™ into traditional concrete mixes. This groundbreaking step showcased Ozinga’s visionary approach to sustainability, as four of their ready-mix concrete plants adopted the technology. This marked the beginning of a journey that would see the company emerge as a leader in sustainable construction practices.
2018 – Iconic Partnerships for Change
The partnership between Ozinga and the iconic McDonald’s flagship store in utilizing CarbonCure™ Technology during construction was a turning point. This collaboration not only resulted in a remarkable structure but also showcased the power of sustainable innovation. This project stored 30,000 lbs. of CO2 in the concrete, promoting a greener approach to building.
2020 – Uniting for Sustainability
The year 2020 marked a significant turning point in Ozinga’s sustainability journey as CarbonCure™ Technology was successfully implemented across all plants. By offering CarbonCure™ in all service areas, Ozinga effectively expanded the reach of environmentally conscious concrete production, setting a standard that would inspire other players in the industry to follow suit. This accomplishment unified sustainability efforts across locations and further aligned the company mission to leave a lasting positive impact in the communities they live and work in.
2021 – Redefining Concrete Construction
In 2021, Ozinga introduced CarbonSense®, their own line of specialized mix designs integrated with CarbonCure™ Technology for additional cement reduction. This innovative line of products significantly reduces the material impact of embodied carbon and assists in reaching net-zero project targets.
2022 – Reaching New Heights, Sustainably
The completion of the 47-story high-rise building, 300 Michigan, in downtown Chicago became a testament to Ozinga’s mission. Utilizing this mix saved total of 1,962 tons of embodied CO2. This accomplishment demonstrated the robustness of the concrete and the immense impact that more sustainable building materials can have in high-volume projects.
2023 – 5 Million Yards of Impact
Today, we celebrate the achievement of pouring 5,000,000 yards of concrete with CarbonCure™ Technology. The achievement is equivalent to 60,000 acres of CO2-absorbing forestland for a year. With every yard sustainably poured, we are taking positive steps towards a low carbon future.
