Historic Pour Named IRMCA Outstanding Concrete Project of the Year
The Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association awarded Ozinga Ready Mix the 2024 Outstanding Concrete Project of the Year. Ozinga won the award for its Lineage Logistics slab on grade project, which marked the company’s largest one-day slab pour ever.
The Lineage Logistics project took place in Hobart, Ind., in April of 2024. The one-day pour included 9,162 cubic yards of concrete. A typical truck load of concrete includes 10 cubic yards. The concrete was for Lineage Logistics’ 130,000-square-foot cold storage building, which had a 24-inch-thick slab.
The historic project was led by Scruto Cement Construction, in partnership with Victory Unlimited Construction and Yard1 Concrete Pumping and Conveying.
“This project was shipped from eight Ozinga plants between Indiana and Illinois, and Hobart police were involved to ensure traffic flow remained constant,” said Executive Vice President of Ozinga’s Indiana region Joe Sanders. “Sustainability is at the forefront of all Ozinga’s initiatives, and this project was no different. The pour was completed without incident and no loads were rejected during this historic day.”
Ozinga leveraged a CarbonSense® mix design with a 20% cement replacement for the 12-hour pour. Ozinga’s CarbonSense® performs just like traditional concrete while significantly reducing carbon emissions. For large-scale commercial projects, CarbonSense® can drastically reduce the embodied carbon emissions and contribute to net-zero goals. Workability, strength, and performance of the concrete does not have to be compromised to meet carbon reduction goals in building.

“It was truly inspiring to see so many talented professionals perform their jobs with precision and excellence. Without a doubt, this was one of the highlights of my nearly 25-year career,” said Ozinga President Justin Ozinga. “It’s not every day you get to really test your skills and capabilities, and this job gave us that opportunity.”
The award was announced during the recent IRMCA’s Outstanding Concrete Projects Awards ceremony, which commends outstanding achievements across diverse categories from the past year. The IRMCA recognizes the exceptional ready mixed concrete projects throughout the state of Indiana annually.
“Indiana concrete producers, their employees and numerous exceptional construction companies pour their hearts into building a better, stronger and more resilient Indiana,” said IRMCA Executive Director Chad Montgomery. “Our Outstanding Concrete awards ceremony is about recognizing the passion, problem-solving and perseverance that elevates the concrete and construction industries to new heights.”
